So what's Belgium’s greatest contribution to the world? Fries?
Well we all enjoy those from time to time. Brussels sprouts? Yeah, thanks Belgium. Marouane Fellaini’s afro? Erm, no. Beer? They certainly make some pretty tasty brews over there. Oh, what about Tomorrowland? It's only one of the biggest and most eagerly anticipated dance music festivals in the world that just happens to be kicking off this week. Do you have tickets? If you don't, it's a bit late now because they were completely sold out within minutes of being made available months ago - but anyway, here's eight reasons why Tomorrowland stands out in a crowded calendar of festivals. If you have tickets, enjoy. If not, you’ll just have to try harder next year.*

It's hard to say definitively which dance music festival is the world’s biggest but by just about any measure, Tomorrowland is right up there. The record attendance to date was for the 2014 ten-year anniversary event which drew in 360,000 partygoers. This year is set to smash that with a predicted 400,000 expected to pass through the gates. That's edging towards half a million. The 2008 version had a lineup of 100 DJs for the first time. By the time of the 2012 festival, that number had risen to over 400. This year’s event also includes up to an impressive 16 separate stages. There are few dance music festivals that can come close to any of these figures.
Speaking of the lineups, if you have that many stages, you’re going to need a lot of performers and the billing for this year’s Tomorrowland reads like a list of all the top names in current dance music. Whoever your favourite DJs are, they are sure to make an appearance at some point, along with practically everybody else you’ve ever heard of and probably a whole lot more you don't know. EDM superstars like Martin Garrix and David Guetta will be there, along with in-demand artists like Black Coffee as well as some of the veterans of the scene like the granddaddy of techno, Carl Cox, and trance overlord, Paul van Dyk. It's probably easier to tell you who won't be performing…
The organisers of Tomorrowland go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that this is no mere weekend at a music festival and rather more like a trip to an alternate reality. The attention to detail that goes into the creation of every one of the beautiful and surreal areas and stages is astonishing and at
Tomorrowland you will be transported to an otherworldly and ephemeral fantasyland. You will find villages of regularly-spaced Tomorrowland tents along with supermarkets, restaurants and chill out zones and the festival even has its own virtual currency, ‘pearls’, that you will use to buy everything you need while you are there.
Dear Amicorum Family, It has been a long time since we last spoke. I'm writing you with incredible joy and excitement. For the time has come again to entertain The Children of all Ages. I am calling upon you, the greatest entertainers ever seen, to gather again and roam the earth.
If your idea of a music festival is camping in a disorganised muddy field, think again. For the duration of Tomorrowland, a fully fledged settlement known as Dreamland springs into existence. There are places for people to pitch their own tents but there are also villages of Dreamland tents, huts, cabins, areas for groups and even luxury mansions with private
jacuzzis. Those staying in Dreamland can arrive one day earlier and are treated to an exclusive pre-party called The Gathering. Residents depart the following Monday, extending the festival to five days.
For those looking for the complete Tomorrowland experience, different packages are available. The basic entrance ticket is known as the Full Madness Pass and gives basic access to all the stages at the festival. The ‘Pleasure’ ticket permits holders to enter two of the comfort zones while the ‘Comfort’ ticket grants access to all the comfort zones including the VIP decks. These can be combined with Dreamland tickets which include accommodation ranging from basic to luxury. Global Journey tickets are for international visitors and offer a complete service from the moment your plane takes off to when you disembark on your way back - and everything in between.
You may imagine that spending three days at a music festival might entail a diet consisting mainly of instant noodles, dodgy burgers and plates of chips. Not so at Tomorrowland. This being Belgium, Tomorrowland is not only an aural and visual journey but also a gastronomic one too. While you will certainly be able to track down Belgian frîtes or waffles should you so choose, you will also have the option of eating in plush restaurants and choosing between sushi, Vietnamese, Indian, gourmet burgers and sandwiches, healthy options and so much more. Some restaurants boast Michelin-starred chefs, and USA-themed B-Eat combines culinary quality with a lineup of live DJs for the ultimate festival culinary experience.
For the many unfortunate dance music fans who were just too slow to snap up a coveted ticket, another option still exists. At various locations around the world, events will be held with big screens and light shows synchronised with events in Belgium so that people can join the party via a live stream, making Tomorrowland a truly global event.
Tomorrowland takes place against the beautiful natural backdrop of the Belgian countryside which provides the perfect setting for three or more days of pure partying and hedonism. And there can surely be no more aptly-named location to hold a dance music festival than the Belgian town of Boom!
This year's event is once again being held over two weekends in response to huge demand and it looks like being one of the most spectacular dance music festivals ever conceived. With the stunning list of artists booked to appear, the mind-blowing stages and effects that are being prepared and all of the surprises that lay in store for those making their way to Belgium, anybody lucky enough to be present can look forward to a lavish celebration of dance music culture and surely one of the standout events of the whole year.
*You could reasonably argue that Belgium has also made significant contributions in the fields of painting and confectionary. We all love a Belgian truffle!
